Top 7 Tips For Getting in Shape This Summer

With the warmer weather approaching, you might be thinking about getting in shape for summer. But getting in shape isn't just about looking good in a swimsuit. Being active is also important for maintaining a positive mental outlook and physical health. In addition to getting in shape, eating a nutritious diet will help you feel good and boost your energy levels for exercising. After all, summer is a great time to spend outdoors, so there's no better time to be active than now!

Interval Training

You don't have to spend all day in the gym to get in shape this summer. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is a great way to get in shape without spending hours in the gym. HIIT involves short bursts of intense exercise followed by brief rest periods. One example of an HIIT round is running fast for 45 seconds, followed by a minute-long recovery period. Repeat this process five or six times during a workout. HIIT workouts are easy to do and integrate into your everyday routine - especially HIIT group fitness classes! Bonus: HIIT is great people who don't have much time to spare. Check out our class schedule here.

Goal Outfit

Depending on your starting point, losing weight can take a few weeks or even months. If you are struggling to lose weight, a goal outfit is one motivating way to stay on track as well as track your progress.

Healthy Eating

Keeping an eye on your diet is critical if you want to get or stay in shape during the summer. Set a strong foundation with lean protein, healthy fats, fruits, and vegetables. Instead of reaching for a sugary snack or candy bar, reach for a piece of fruit or vegetable instead.

Stress Management

Everyone experiences stress from time to time, and summer is no exception. Stress is a natural part of life, and can be useful to motivate you to prepare for tests and other responsibilities. Sometimes, it can even save our lives. Exercise is actually a great way to manage stress. Deep breathing, yoga, meditation, time in nature, and healthy eating are also great ways to keep stress levels in check!

Don’t Overthink It

Don't psych yourself out; just get there. Simply tell yourself that you are going to exercise today. Plan ahead by packing your workout clothes and signing up for a fitness class. The first step is to show up, and once you do, you'll feel a lot better, which will give you the mental push you need to get through the workout.

Think Positive

Think positively and envision yourself succeeding! Make a list of reasons why you want to achieve your goals, as well as how they will improve your everyday life and overall health, and how they will make you feel. Set realistic goals that you can achieve by breaking them down into smaller stages. Take some time to reflect on your accomplishments and visualize how you will look and feel when you reach each milestone. Re-visit this method if you're lacking in motivation.

Be Patient

Patience is a virtue, as is thinking long-term. Getting healthy and fit doesn’t happen overnight. It's a process and a trip that's best approached one step at a time while keeping your eyes on the prize. The way to reach your goals is by committing to a long-term, manageable lifestyle plan. Consistency, patience, and accountability are a winning combo - especially when combined with our fitness program!
