Top 7 Tips to Staying Motivated to Work Out

One of the most common problems people face when starting a new fitness or nutrition regimen is: MOTIVATION!

No matter how dedicated we are to achieving your goals, we all have days that feel tough to get to the gym or stick to our nutrition plan. But for a plan to work, consistency is key — and that means learning how to motivate yourself.

Read on for our top 7 tips to stay motivated to workout!

Find a gym buddy

Knowing our family and friends are rooting for us great, but sometimes sideline support just isn’t enough. One of the best ways to stay motivated, or to boost motivation when it’s low, is by training with a buddy. Research actually backs this up, finding that people who work out together instead of solo tend to feel more motivation and work out more consistently. P.S. One great way to find a gym buddy is at one of our group fitness classes!

Treat yourself to new gym swag

Because who doesn’t love showing off new gym leggings or a cute new fitness tee at the gym! Plus, if you feel good in what you’re wearing, you’re likely to be in a better mood, which makes it more likely you’ll get amped up for your workout.

Make a vision board and focus on your goals

Keeping a visual reminder of your why, your inspiration, and your goals is a great pick-me-up when you’re feeling low on motivation. You could also take your vision board a step further by adding a tracking chart to it!

Make a gym playlist

If you’re the kind of person who prefers to train solo with headphones, your playlist can make all the difference in helping motivate you at the gym. We recommend choosing music that is high-energy and upbeat. If you need an extra boost, you could also hit play on your way home from work or while you get ready for the gym.

Rest matters too

Another tip to staying motivated is not burning yourself out. Rest is an important part of the recovery process. Make time for relaxation, as well as adequate sleep — especially since lack of sleep can derail our hunger and satiety hormones, making it harder to stay on track with our nutrition goals.

Try a group fitness class

Besides being a great opportunity to build muscle and burn fat, group fitness classes are fantastic for fun, accountability, and finding your gym buddy. Group fitness classes also take away the need to come up with a workout plan. Check out our class schedule to see what works best for your schedule and goals!

Mind your self talk

Remind yourself that you’ve got this, you can do this, and think about how accomplished you’ll feel after your workout. You can also add motivational phrases like these to your vision board for a visual reminder!
